Quantum stocks +20% in one day - NVIDIA enters quantum computing

April 14, 2026, World Quantum Day. NVIDIA announces Ising - the first family of free open AI models for quantum computers. Quantum stocks soared en masse.

NVIDIA Ising quantum AI

April 14, World Quantum Day. NVIDIA picked the perfect day to enter a new industry.

They announced Ising - a family of two AI models for quantum computers:

  1. Ising Calibration - a model for calibrating quantum processors
  2. Ising Decoding - two variants for error correction (one optimized for speed, one for accuracy)

Why? Because quantum computers are extraordinarily fragile.

Quantum computers are a new class of machine

They’re supposed to be a million times faster than classical computers - on certain tasks. But there’s a problem. The slightest temperature fluctuation, magnetic field, cosmic ray - and they make errors.

NVIDIA gives them an AI that catches and corrects those errors in real time.

  • 2.5x faster than existing methods
  • 3x more accurate

Quote from Jensen Huang’s keynote: “AI is becoming the operating system of quantum computers. With Ising, AI becomes the control plane - the operating system of quantum machines - transforming fragile qubits into scalable, reliable quantum-GPU systems.”

Translation: anyone who wants to build a quantum computer will buy something from NVIDIA too.

Market reaction

Investors believed it. Quantum stocks soared in a single day:

  • IonQ +20.16%
  • SEALSQ +21.03%
  • XNDU +29.07%
  • D-Wave Quantum +15.84%
  • Quantum Computing Inc. +11.55%
  • Rigetti Computing +11.50%

Six companies up double-digits in one day. A signal that big money believes - quantum + AI = the next wave.

NVIDIA’s strategy - platform for everything

NVIDIA is no longer a company that just sells AI accelerator cards. They’re moving into quantum computers, robotics, manufacturing, automotive. Into everything that processes data.

They want to be the platform - like an OS for the next era of compute. The way Microsoft Windows was for PCs in the 90s.

The difference - Microsoft had to wait for PCs to become standard. NVIDIA is creating the standard before markets even develop. Ising for quantum, Drive for cars, Omniverse for robotics.

My take

The most interesting thing here isn’t the Ising models themselves. It’s the strategy.

NVIDIA spent five years being a “graphics card company”. Then they were “the GPU company for AI”. Now they’re “the platform company for every compute revolution”.

The question is whether that’s enough to keep dominance. Because China is already building its own alternatives (DeepSeek on Huawei). Tesla is building its own chips. Apple buys from TSMC. Everyone wants to escape NVIDIA’s grip.

Ising in quantum is an attempt at expansion before competition gets organized. Right now no one else has these AI models for quantum. NVIDIA’s first, so NVIDIA sets the rules.
